Mati Gray

As cliché as it is to say, Mati has loved the ocean for as long as they can remember. Days spent rockpooling on the west coast of Scotland are some of their favorite early childhood memories. This passion and love led them to pursue their undergraduate studies at SAMS in Oban and then on to Marine Scotland in Aberdeen, where they worked in the North Sea as an oceanographer. Mati now finds themself on an exciting new project in Nova Scotia, collaborating with CERI and the SEAM lab at Dalhousie University to study seagrass distribution. Their role in this important work is to assess where seagrass is today in the context of where it might have been in the past. In doing so, the team hopes to identify climate change-resilient locations for restoration. This is vital to ensuring that communities and the natural biodiversity in the area can continue to thrive and coexist with humans.
