The Confederacy of Mainland Mi’kmaq (CMM) is a tribal council which provides services to eight First Nations communities throughout Mi’kma’ki. The Department of Aquatic Resources and Fisheries Management (DARFM) is a department within The CMM that works towards preserving and restoring aquatic ecosystems, resources and species using the concept of Etuaptmumk (two-eyed seeing).

Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society – Nova Scotia Chapter
The Nova Scotia Chapter of the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society is a non-governmental organization that works to conserve public lands and waters in Nova Scotia. We undertake ecological surveys throughout the province, with a focus on high-priority ecosystems, including eelgrass. We have helped establish over 200 protected areas in Nova Scotia.
The Deanery Project
The Deanery Project is an environmental arts and learning center located in Ship Harbour, Nova Scotia. They are a dynamic education and demonstration site for environmental sustainability, skills development, the arts, and community building.
The Ecology Action Center
The Ecology Action Centre acts as watchdog, convener, mobilizer and incubator. They engage community to create systemic change in the face of urgent, complex environmental issues.
The Ulnooweg Education Centre
The Ulnooweg Education Centre is an Indigenous-led registered charitable organization that empowers Indigenous communities through the advancement of education. It is one of three divisions of Ulnooweg.

Based in Kjipuktuk / Halifax, ZUPPA aims to make extraordinary experiences that provoke the consideration of new perspectives and ideas. With each project we attempt to do something we don’t know how to do and work with collaborators who bring new life experiences or skill sets to the table. We make shows for Halifax and for places far away.

Bentzen Lab – Molecular Ecology and Conservation
The Bentzen Lab at Dalhousie University focuses on research examining biodiversity in aquatic species and environments with applications for conservation and management. A major current focus is developing and using environmental DNA tools to assist conservation efforts of endangered Atlantic Whitefish and to catalogue freshwater fish communities.
Kienast Lab – Ocean Biogeochemistry and Paleooceonography
The Seascape Ecology and Mapping Lab
The SEAM lab’s research aims to describe, understand, and quantify the spatial patterns of benthic fauna and habitats at the ocean floor. Their research is grounded in the applied sciences, and they collaborate with government, private sector, and other academic institution on a wide range of projects within the field.
